A silver tea service from around 1815 served as the model for ”Maria”.
The company’s founder, Privy Councilor Philipp Rosenthal Sr., had purchased it on a trip to England. The service was named after Philipp Rosenthal’s wife Maria.
The neoclassical, octagonal basic shape is framed by a delicate, fine-swollen pomegranate relief, which takes up design elements of the Biedermeier.
It is the right-angled handles and the offset angular surfaces with their play of light and shadow, which give this shape its unmistakable character.
As early as the 1920s and 1930s, ”Maria” was a well-developed service with around 170 different individual pieces.
Even today, ”Maria” is the most extensive tableware from the Rosenthal brand.
Rosenthal products impress with design, functionality, quality and enduring innovation. Rosenthal has been producing porcelain with exceptional craftsmanship for more than 140 years.
